My 3-Day Juice Fast

I have been drinking juices very regularly for a few months now and I have noticed how it has been improving my health. I have been feeling more energetic and cleaner inside! I have been thinking about doing a juice fast for a while, simply to cleanse my body and to give it a rest. I have always been putting it off thinking that I needed a clear schedule (no parties, no dinners, no work…) and probably because I thought it would be too hard not to eat. I also thought that I would faint from the lack of food and that I would not be able to work properly.

 

DAY 1

Well, I just woke up one Sunday and I only felt like drinking juice. When lunch and dinner came, I only felt like drinking juice again. So I listened to my body and nourished it with fruit and vegetable juice. After one day of drinking  juices only, I decided to keep it going for the next few days and see how it would go.

DAY 2

I woke up and drank some hot water with lemon to start the day, as I usually do. I did some yoga and drank juiced beetroot, cucumber, celery, apples, cos lettuce and ginger. I was wondering how I could manage the whole day by only drinking juice. I was a bit worried that I would not have enough energy to get through the day…Well, guess what? I did not feel hungry at all, I did not feel tired and I did not faint! My only snack that day was an apple. Dinner time came and I juiced carrots, spinach, melon, pear, kale and ginger. On that day, I did not feel tired at all. I actually felt really good, healthy and clear-thinking!

DAY 3

I weighed myself and noticed that I had lost 1,8 kg. Losing weight was definitely not one of my objectives but it is part of the cleansing process. Breakfast consisted of beetroot, celery, spinach, carrots, orange and blueberries all juiced up. It was so delicious and fresh. I only added hemp seeds for some proteins. I still did not feel tired. The snack of the day was an avocado with organic olive oil.

Throughout the juice fast, I continued taking spirulina and chlorella supplements, as they both support the body in getting adequate nutrition and in detoxifying. You can read more about spirulina here and about chlorella here. I also kept taking triphala just before bed, as it helps cleanse the toxins accumulated in the colon.

I had to break the fast due to a birthday dinner party. However, I ate vegetables only that night and in small portions, in order not to overload my digestive system. You do not want to break a fast abruptly, as it can be a shock to your system.

 

Overall

I am very happy I listened to my body and gave it what it needed. In 3 days, I have felt healthier, my mind was clearer, I lost a little bit of weight, and I felt re-energized! Imagine if you keep it going for a few more days! That is my plan: to do a juice fast for 7 days. I will let you know how it goes.

Tips

If you are thinking about going on a juice fast for a few days, you need to be prepared! I would highly recommend that you stock up on organic fruits and vegetables. You will need a lot of them for your juices.

Try to do a fast when you do not have many social obligations.

There are specific recipes you can do before and after a workout.

Keep drinking a lot of water to help your body flush out all the toxins.

Happy and positives thoughts, some yoga and  support from your friends and family can be helpful.
