Are you feeling a bit down or bored and you do not know what to do to feel better? Here are a few suggestions to increase your happiness in the next 30 minutes. Happiness does not have to be a long-term ambition. Just start right now! You will feel happier and proud of yourself for having achieved your goals and it will boost your mood.
Go for a walk, a run or do some yoga. Exercise will pump up your energy and outdoor light will increase the brain chemicals responsible for the mood.
Connect with nature
Hug a tree or walk bare foot and feel the grass or the sand in between your toes.
Call or email a friend you have not talked to in a while. You can also reach out to someone new. You will make a new friend and friendliness will boost your happiness.
Do you have a sewing/knitting/painting/drawing or jewellery project that you keep putting off until you find the perfect moment to start it? Well, the perfect moment is now! Get onto it! Even if you just get it started, you will feel happy and proud to see what you can create.
Check your ‘Ideas jar’
You know, a jar in which you place small papers with ideas of things you want to do or create when you have time? Go check what is in your jar or start one now.
Organize and sort things out
In your cupboard, get rid of the old stuff and make room for the new. Organize that pile of papers on your desk. It does not have to take you hours; set the timer on 10-15 minutes. Plus, outer order is good feng shui and you will gain more clarity.
Get rid of that nagging task
Book that dentist appointment, make the phone call you fear, deal with the problem you have been postponing for a long time. Crossing the nagging task off your to-do list will give you a sense of relief and elevation.
Do a good deed
See the post on Random Acts of Kindness for some ideas. Happiness also comes through kindness. It will make you happy to make someone else happy.
Learn something new
Pick a topic that you are really interested in, not something you should or need to know. Spend 15-20 minutes reading about it online or go buy a book about it. This will inspire you and give you new perspectives.
Try a new recipe
Cook or bake and invite a friend over to share it with. You will share and have a good laugh. Laughing is a great anti-depressant and boosts your mood.
Happiness rarely keeps company with an empty stomach- Helen Keller
Go for an organic dark chocolate with at least 70% cacao. Dark chocolate contains serotonin and increases endorphin production. It’s a natural anti-depressant. That is why chocolate is called ‘instant happiness’.
Research shows that happy people are friendlier, social, likeable, and more productive. They experience less stress and feel more positive about their life. Happiness improves health, diminishes anxiety and depression, and happy people tend to live longer.
